Doctors Rally in Barmer, Demand Action Against SDM's Misconduct
In Barmer, Rajasthan, a significant protest unfolded as hundreds of medical professionals, including students, resident doctors, and government physicians, marched from the Government Hospital to the Collectorate office. Their unified demand: immediate suspension and legal action against the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) accused of misconduct towards an on-duty doctor.
The controversy began when a video surfaced showing the SDM entering an OPD room, ordering the doctor to prioritize a particular patient, and threatening police action when the doctor hesitated. The SDM's directive to "Check her first" and subsequent threats, including "I will hand you over to the police, within one minute!" were captured in the footage. The doctor, managing an OPD with over 250 patients, had already attended to the mentioned patient and expressed concerns about neglecting others awaiting care.
In response to the incident, medical associations such as the United Doctors' Front (UDF), UPCHAR, ARISDA, and JMA convened to deliberate on potential actions. Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of UDF, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "If the Government does not take any action, the doctors in both the government and private sector might be forced to go for a complete shutdown of medical services. However, the emergency services will remain operational."
The medical community's protest included a candlelight march, symbolizing solidarity with the affected doctor and underscoring the demand for the SDM's suspension and the filing of an FIR against him. The incident has ignited a broader conversation about the treatment of healthcare professionals and the challenges they face in their line of duty.

CEE Kerala Initiates Stray Vacancy Round for PG Medical Admissions 2024The Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE) Kerala has commenced the online stray vacancy allocation process for Postgraduate (PG) Medical Courses for the 2024 academic year. This initiative aims to fill vacant seats in Government Medical Colleges, the Regional Cancer Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, and self-financed medical colleges across the state. Eligible candidates listed in the Kerala State Merit list are invited to register their options through the official CEE website by 5:00 PM on February 20, 2025. The allotment will be based on the merit list and the preferences submitted online by the specified deadline. Candidates eligible for fee concessions, such as SC/ST/OE categories, will pay half of the specified amounts. The registration fee will be refunded to candidates who are allotted a seat and join the respective college; however, those who do not join the allotted seat will forfeit the registration fee as a penalty.It is crucial for candidates to understand that options registered in previous phases will not carry over to the stray vacancy phase; therefore, fresh registration of options is essential. Later that evening, a group of six to eight individuals allegedly stormed into Hamim's hostel room, subjected him to a brutal beating, and coerced him into recording an apology video under duress. They issued threats, warning him of dire consequences over the next four years and prohibiting him from participating in cricket during this period.In response to the complaint, the Vijayapura police have arrested five senior students: Mohammed Zainul (23), Sameer (24), Shaik Sawood (23), Mansoor Bhasha (24), and Muzzaffer alias Mujeeb Jamadar (23). They have been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, pertaining to assault and ragging.
